CUGINI DI ROC
This remarkable celebration is being produced by Cugini di ROC, a broad-based, non-commercial all volunteer community organization that has agreed to plan, develop and implement a variety of programs to celebrate and promote Italian Heritage now and into the future. In addition, the group seeks to promote healing and build bridges at every opportunity.*
Cugini di ROC is a grassroots multi-generational group of people with a passion for their Italian heritage. Members of the committee are each part of a wide network of racial and social justice groups who value inclusion, solidarity and synergistic pride. The committee began in 2019 with a series of large conversation circles and has since been formally recognized by the City of Rochester - including the Mayor of Rochester, Malik Evans - and many other individuals and organizations for the purposes described on this site.
Cugini di ROC has a horizontal organizational structure which means we do not have a leader as such. Instead we operate as a community of equals with decisions made by consensus.
* Cugini di ROC is acting in solidarity with Indigenous people. We acknowledge the land in which we are gathered on is Native land, specifically the land of the Seneca, which is one of the Six Nations in the Haudenosaunee Confederacy. We are gathering to learn, heal and build relationships between Indigenous and non Indigenous communities and to honor and celebrate Native culture of the past, present and future.
